Senior Backend Engineer(Node.js)

About the Role

About the Role We are looking for a highly skilled Senior Backend Engineer with strong expertise in Node.js to design, build, and maintain scalable, secure, and high-performing backend systems. The ideal candidate will have solid experience building production-grade APIs and backend services, working with databases, integrating third-party services, and collaborating closely with frontend engineers, product managers, and other technical teams. Key Responsibilities * Design, develop, and maintain scalable backend applications and services using Node.js. * Build and maintain robust RESTful APIs and backend integrations. * Develop clean, reusable, maintainable, and well-tested code. * Design and optimize database structures, queries, and data models. * Integrate third-party APIs, payment gateways, authentication services, and other external systems. * Implement secure authentication, authorization, data protection, and other backend security practices. * Identify and resolve performance, reliability, and scalability issues. * Write unit, integration, and API tests to ensure system reliability. * Participate in code reviews and provide technical guidance to other engineers. * Work closely with frontend engineers, product managers, designers, and other stakeholders to deliver product features. * Contribute to system architecture, technical decisions, and engineering best practices. * Monitor backend services, troubleshoot production issues, and implement long-term solutions. * Participate in Agile ceremonies including sprint planning, stand-ups, reviews, and retrospectives. * Contribute to technical documentation and ensure engineering standards are consistently maintained. Required Qualifications & Experience * 5+ years of professional software engineering experience, with significant backend development experience. * Strong proficiency in Node.js and JavaScript/TypeScript. * Strong experience building and maintaining REST APIs and backend services. * Solid knowledge of Express.js, NestJS, or similar Node.js frameworks. * Strong experience with relational and/or NoSQL databases such as PostgreSQL, MySQL, MongoDB, or Redis. * Experience with API authentication and authorization mechanisms such as JWT, OAuth, and role-based access control. * Good understanding of software architecture, design patterns, data structures, and algorithms. * Experience with Git and modern software development workflows. * Experience writing automated tests and maintaining code quality. * Familiarity with Docker, CI/CD pipelines, and cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or GCP. * Strong understanding of application security, performance optimization, and scalability. * Experience working in Agile/Scrum development environments. Nice to Have * Experience working in Fintech, Payments, Banking, or other highly regulated environments. * Experience integrating payment processors, banking APIs, or financial services. * Experience with event-driven architecture, message queues, or microservices. * Experience with Kafka, RabbitMQ, or similar messaging systems. * Familiarity with Kubernetes and cloud infrastructure. * Experience working with monitoring and observability tools. * Contributions to open-source projects or a strong technical portfolio.
